Intarsia
Intarsia art form was used in Italy during the 15th century. It is a creative form of inlay. Since that time, people have come up with their own techniques for intarsia.
I use a variety of domestic and/or exotic woods to create my pieces. There might be 16 to 100 plus individual pieces that make up the finished product. Some pieces are made of all natural woods, and some pieces might have stain added to create the right look. After cutting out all the pieces to the pattern; I use the belt sander to contour the pieces to varying heights, then the hand sanding process begins. Once the sanding is complete, I use a natural stain or a colored stain on the wood and let dry. Then, I glue all the pieces together on a backer board and apply a sealer to the finished piece. Each intarsia plaque is unique..... although the finished product may be similar; wood grains, stains, and contour finishing is unique to the individual piece. The price of an item depends on a couple of different things; all natural wood vs. wood with colored stains and the time to create the piece. You can also have an engraved name plate (up to 3 lines) added to anything for an additional 5.00.
